About Me
I am Lim Xin Yi, a student from Guangyang Secondary School. I enjoy learning how science explains the human body and solving questions through careful observation. My experiences in Red Cross Youth, science programmes and clinic job shadowing have helped me become disciplined, reflective and motivated to learn.
I value responsibility, empathy and service. As a Prefect, Peer Support Leader and Vice-Chairperson of Red Cross Youth, I have learned to communicate clearly, manage commitments, remain calm under pressure and support others.
Why biomedical science, why now
"Being exposed to COVID-19 during the end of my formative years got me curious about the works of human health and diseases."
I acted on this interest by joining Red Cross Youth, earning Standard First Aid and BCLS certifications, and serving as Vice-Chairperson. I also took part in the Australian Big Science Competition and NYP's Derma and Pharma Course, which gave me practical exposure beyond the classroom.
This diploma will help me develop the biological knowledge, laboratory discipline and analytical skills needed for further study and a future in medicine.

Joined Red Cross Youth CCA
My interest in human health led me to join Red Cross Youth, where I began turning curiosity into practical service and disciplined training.
Standard First Aid, then Prefect
I obtained my Standard First Aid certification and became a Prefect, learning to communicate confidently, step outside my comfort zone and manage multiple responsibilities.
BCLS, Peer Support Leader, Vice-Chairperson
I progressed to Basic Cardiac Life Support, became a Peer Support Leader and was appointed Vice-Chairperson of Red Cross Youth. These roles strengthened my planning, empathy and composure under pressure.
Australian Big Science Competition · NYP Derma & Pharma
I achieved a Credit in the Australian Big Science Competition and completed NYP's Derma and Pharma Course, widening my scientific exposure before applying for Biomedical Science.
A week inside the clinic
During my UFit physiotherapy job-shadowing experience, I observed how healthcare professionals gather information, interpret findings and apply evidence-based knowledge to real client needs.
I observed how a physiotherapist gathers information from clients, compares it with research findings and applies evidence-based knowledge to practical problems. This showed me the importance of careful observation, communication and scientific reasoning in healthcare.

Chasing the science, beyond class
I pursued science competitions and programmes beyond the classroom to explore biomedical applications and test my interest.
Australian Big Science Competition
Achieved a credit — an early test of applying classroom science under competition conditions, against an international benchmark beyond the local syllabus.
NYP Derma and Pharma Course
During NYP's Derma and Pharma Course, I gained practical exposure to how science is applied in dermatology and pharmaceutical contexts. The experience strengthened my interest in laboratory learning, careful observation and the connection between scientific knowledge and real healthcare applications.

What my roles have taught me
Vice-Chairperson, Red Cross Youth
I developed resilience, responsibility, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. I planned the unit's schedule and routine, and strengthened her leadership skills through team-building activities with her cadets.
Peer Support Leader
I learned to be compassionate, empathetic, and an active listener — providing emotional support to peers since 2025.
Prefect, since 2024
I stepped out of her comfort zone to communicate with a wider range of people, while juggling schoolwork and every other commitment on this page.
Job shadowing, UFit
I watched evidence-based practice up close — clients, data, research findings, and outcomes, all connected. The clearest early preview of what biomedical science looks like on the job.
